PENGUIN DESIGNED ROBOTS

TELE-SUBMARINE

Current underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROV) require umbilical cords to transmit information between the operator and ROV.  This poses several problems such as the cables which can limit the excursion distance of the vehicle, and can lead to entanglement. These factors can restrict the range of movement which is crucial to accomplishing the tasks of underwater exploration, construction and mining.

Penguin's technology does away with the need for cables. The Penguin ASI tele-submarine is equipped with a spherical optical communications system mounted on top of the unit permitting the transmission of information, with optical towers relaying the signals between the towers and the main control system on surface.

This underwater vehicle is a great robot for explorative operations.

ROKBOT

ROKBOT

Originally designed and built to compete in the NASA Regolith Excavation Challenge, this robot has since been revamped with improvements to its digging, loading and dumping capabilities as well as additional automation in for tasks such as machine guidance.  The robot is structured to perform mining and civil construction tasks both above and underground.

Components of the Rokbot include tracks individually controlled to allow for skid steer operation, an oscillating front scrapper to aid in breaking loose material, a conveyor to deposit the material into a bin mounted on the Rokbot where an electrical actuator completes the dumping tasks.   A laser scanner and camera are used for orientation and an accelerometer fro positioning.  This Penguin ASI designed robot can be adapted to suit any client’s needs within the tasks listed.
